Panama approves the use of Pfizer’s vaccine against Covid-19

This Tuesday, December 15, 2020, Panama announced the approval of Pfizer’s vaccine against Covid-19, in addition, the confinement throughout the country was also confirmed, for the end of the year festivities.

Pfizer continues to add countries that approve the use of its vaccine. However, the drug will not be available in Panama until 2021, although the authorization was issued as an emergency, therefore, the bureaucracy will accelerate.

“We received the call from the senior managers of Pfizer asking us if we are ready to implement the vaccine. And with pride we communicate that we are ready, “said Deputy Minister of Health, Ivette Berrio.

Panama is the Central American country hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic with more than 200.000 positive cases and more than 3.000 deaths. The country is also in negotiations to acquire the vaccine being developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford.

The new confinement process in the country will take place between December 25 and 28 and also between January 1 and 4. In addition, access to the beaches will also be restricted from December 23.
