1 million Ecuadorians lost their jobs in this year’s, said President Moreno

The President of the Republic, Lenín Moreno, together with the Minister of Economic and Social Inclusion, Vicente Taiano, and the Secretary of Communication, Caridad Vela, referred to the actions undertaken by of the National Government in the social sphere.

According to the President, several fronts have been established to serve the most vulnerable people, one of these mechanisms is the social protection bond of USD 240, delivered to 950 thousand families. For his part, Minister Taiano assured that the largest social protection network in the history of Ecuador has been established in the country, serving 2 million families with emerging bonds.

President Moreno reported that the Human Development Bond has been delivered to approximately 670.000 people; however, between 350.000 and 180.000 have stopped receiving this benefit. Minister Taiano assured that between September and December 2020, 225 thousand new beneficiaries of this bond have been registered, and by 2021, 1 and a half million Ecuadorians will receive some type of allocation from the Government.

On the subject of nutrition, the authorities stated that 2 million food kits have been delivered, as well as 1 million 700 thousand school food kits for the Coast, Amazon and Insular region, and 1 million 200 thousand kits for the Sierra. There are monthly and bimonthly bonuses ranging from USD 15 to USD 90 for families, with the aim of combating malnutrition in households.

Taiano reported that yesterday, by Executive Decree, the National Government grouped all the institutions linked to priority care, in a project to provide their services to expectant mothers and children from 0 to 2 years old, covered by the All A Life and Mission plan Tenderness. Through this Decree, a roadmap will be established until 2030, to eradicate child malnutrition.

Regarding the unemployment rates in the country, President Lenín Moreno reported that 1 million unemployed were registered during the covid-19 pandemic in the country, but currently 500 thousand jobs have been recovered. For this reason, the National Government has established labor protection mechanisms such as the Humanitarian Support Law, new forms of work and credits. The head of the MIES reported that more than 89% of credits have been destined to women entrepreneurs. 210 thousand credits have been delivered throughout the country.

To conclude, in relation to the letter issued by the Democratic congressmen of the United States on the latest agreements established between Ecuador and the North American country, President Lenín Moreno assured that there are many inaccuracies in said letter, since the congressmen did not access all the information on the established agreements. Likewise, regarding the latest events between the National Electoral Council and the Electoral Contentious Tribunal, he urged said bodies to dialogue, to adjust their decisions based on the Constitution and the electoral calendar.
