The vaccination is scheduled to begin this same day.
The president of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, attended this Thursday the arrival in the country of the first 10.000 doses of the vaccine developed by Pfizer BioNTech against Covid-19.
The plane, from Belgium, landed at 6:47 a.m. local time at the Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in the capital, making Chile one of the first countries in Latin America to receive the first doses of Pfizer after Mexico and Costa Rica.
The first batch will be distributed between the capital, in La Araucanía, Biobío and Magallanes, in the south of the country, where the first to receive the doses will be health professionals from these regions, the most affected by the pandemic.
The next shipment, with another 10.000 doses, will arrive next week and the process will continue until the ten million that Chile has reserved for this US laboratory are completed.
Piñera was accompanied by the Ministers of Health, Enrique Paris; of Science, Andrés Couve; of Foreign Relations, Andrés Allamand; and Interior, Rodrigo Delgado.
The Chilean president at the airport urged citizens to “maintain personal care, each one takes care of himself and each one has to also take care of those who are in his area, around him”
