The first round would take place on February 7, 2020.
National movements and political parties signed a manifesto in which they unanimously supported the date of the presidential elections, which were called for February 7.
The Social Christian Party (PSC), CREO, Izquierda Democrática (ID), Centro Democrático, Democracia Sí, Pachakutik, Construye and Fuerza Compromiso Social supported the deadlines that were established in the electoral calendar and signed a manifesto within the framework of the fourth advisory council of national political parties and movements convened by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
In this context, the political movements and organizations reminded the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE) that on June 11, 2020, this entity was ratified in the “fixed dates” of the electoral calendar, to resolve contentious electoral appeals.
It should be remembered that there is a political struggle between the CNE and the TCE, due to the ruling in which it was ordered that the Social Justice movement have new deadlines for it to choose candidates, register them and be qualified.
Given this, a query was raised to the Constitutional Court to issue a final ruling on this issue, but this could lead to the deadlines of the electoral calendar being modified, while the Social Justice situation is resolved.
Despite this, several councilors stressed that the dates are immovable by constitutional mandate and that they cannot be changed or modified, although the Vice President of the CNE, Enrique Pita, raised the possibility of modifying only the date of the first round.
