Parlasur will investigate Luis Almagro for his role in the 2019 Bolivian crisis

The president of the organization mentioned that the role of the OAS in last year’s elections was “a shameless thing, without feet or head”

From the South American Parliament (Parlasur), they initiated an investigation against the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, for his role in the Bolivian crisis of 2019.

This was confirmed by the president of the organization, Oscar Laborde. The Argentine legislator mentioned that the investigation is pertinent because the OAS official questioned the elections of October last year and did not present evidence of the alleged fraud.

Opposition groups in Bolivia welcomed this report, which questioned the triumph of then-president Evo Morales, leader of the Movement for Socialism (MAS), which forced the president to resign and leave the country. “We are going to work so that the Secretary General of the OAS is investigated,” Laborde said.

He added that the role of the OAS in last year’s elections was “a shameless thing” and called on that entity to admit “the terrible mistake it made to subdue Latin America and the Bolivian people.”

After a year of resistance, social movements forced the de facto government born of the 2019 coup to call elections, which were won with 55 of the votes by the MAS candidate, Luis Arce. For many, that resounding victory proved the proof that belies the fraud narrative.

Parlasur brings together representatives from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.
