After the appearance of the new strain of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom, the President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, decreed a new focused state of exception for 30 days, and a curfew for 15 days in the country.
Travelers who arrive in Ecuador from the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa and the countries of the European Union, must present evidence of having a negative PCR result, within 10 days before the trip.
At the airports of Quito and Guayaquil, a quick test will be applied to each citizen. In addition, they will again require Mandatory Preventive Isolation (APO) for five days, in previously agreed hotels, for non-resident travelers in Ecuador. Those who do not have a negative PCR test upon arrival in the country, whether Ecuadorian or foreign, must comply with the APO for 10 days in a hotel.
The state of exception will be for 30 days, while the curfew will be for 15 days, from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. In addition, the vehicle restriction is implemented:
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, vehicles with odd plates may circulate. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday vehicles with even plates can be mobilized. This Sunday, December 27, only cars with an odd plate may circulate. The measure applies only to private vehicles. Public transport has no restrictions at the moment.
The beaches will also be closed on December 24, 25 and 31, 2020 and also on January 1, 2021. President Moreno also announced that social gatherings are limited to a maximum of 10 people. Shopping centers may open from 08:00 to 20:00 with limited capacity. Restaurant capacity is reduced to 30% of its capacity.
The Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, reported that it is not a new strain of the virus, but variations that occur and that it was expected to occur as a mechanism for the virus to survive.
“It is not known whether the vaccines that are being commercialized will cover the mutation of the virus. There are too many variants of the virus. It is not yet proven whether it will cover or not, “he said.
