Ecuador reports 72 new infections and one more death in the last 24 hours. This Monday, December 21, 2020, the country registers 206.329 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 13.949 deaths due to the pandemic.
Galápagos, Morona, Azuay, Pichincha and Carchi are the provinces with the highest increase when comparing the accumulated rate of this week with respect to the previous one. Eight days ago, in this group of five provinces were Santa Elena. The provinces that show the least growth are Orellana, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Zamora, Los Ríos and Esmeraldas.
This Sunday, no deaths from COVID-19 were reported and this Monday a death was registered, within the category of deaths with suspicion of carrying the respiratory virus.
At the national level, there are 438 stable hospitalized patients and 382 with a reserved prognosis. Hospital occupancy has increased this month. This Monday, there are 820 hospitalized in one day, while 50 more people were discharged from the hospital.
Pichincha registers 21 new infections and does not report new deaths. The province, the epicenter of the pandemic, has 73.582 diagnosed with the new coronavirus and 2.293 deaths. Quito adds 20 more infected and the total number of cases in the Ecuadorian capital rises to 67.812.
