The National Union of Educators (UNE) demanded that the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) add to the decreed measures the non-return to teachers’ educational establishments.
On December 17, the national COE approved the requests submitted by 12 Higher Education institutions and 204 fiscal institutions for the progressive return of their activities, as a pilot plan, starting on January 18, 2021.
With the discovery of the new variant of COVID-19, the COE decided to take new measures such as a new state of exception for 30 days, which includes a curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 04:00 a.m., for 15 days, as well as a vehicle restriction.
Educators question that the Government has not solved some protocols that should be followed to guarantee the health of the teachers.
Among them, the fumigation of educational establishments, the application of rapid tests, the provision of biosecurity supplies, including teachers and students in the priority group of vaccines, a free internet and technological equipment for teachers.
In addition, they demand the return of the USD 900 million to the public educational system and the reinstatement of teachers and delivery of final appointments to avoid overcrowding in classrooms.
The COE authorities clarified that this decision still stands, but it may be modified, according to the evolution of the pandemic in the country during these days of December.
