The results will be published in the world’s leading scientific journals.
In Ecuador, two cases of Covid-19 reinfection and one of reactivation are being studied, the affected people live in Quito, Guayaquil and Tena. Scientific studies of the cases of these citizens were disclosed in various publications.
Several investigations had determined that a person could not be re-infected with Covid-19, for 6 months. However, in Quito a person was infected for the first time in April, but in July, 3 months later, he suffered from coronavirus again.
During the first infection, the symptoms were mild, but on the second occasion those headaches, back pain and fever were worse. This case study was published in the British magazine “The Lancet”.
On the other hand, in Guayaquil a case of reactivation is being studied, where the symptoms in the patient arise from the same variant of the virus that he had for the first time. This process responds to the fact that “the pathogen fell asleep in a cell of the body,” experts say.
The patient developed mild symptoms in April and after three months he had complaints again. According to scientific studies at the time, the two variants were similar, so “scientifically” it was the same virus. The researchers are awaiting confirmation to publish the study in a scientific journal.
For its part, the case of reinfection in Tena follows the same steps as that of Quito, because it also presented symptoms in the first months of the pandemic and then had mild symptoms again.
There are 26 cases of Covid-19 reinfection in the world. Therefore, the authorities continue to call for respect for biosecurity measures such as social distancing of 2 meters and constant hand washing.
