Mario Ramos, a security expert, says that the increase in crime and insecurity in the country is the consequence of the destruction, by the current government, of the achievements made in the previous regime in terms of public policies to confront the unsafety.
The expert believes that, given the lack of employment, people have no other option than crime, as well as suicide for others, given the economic crisis that the country is experiencing, due to the stagnation, regression and disorganization that have prevailed in this government administration.
In his opinion, there are not even reliable and transparent statistics or indicators on the criminal situation, by type of crime: homicides, femicides, robberies of people, business premises, etc.
Ramos maintains that the perception that citizens have is that there is a brutal insecurity, which has forced people to organize to face crime. Videos on social networks, such as robberies and assaults that have gone viral, increase the perception of insecurity, he says.
Another source for increasing the perception of insecurity is impunity, which has generated the justice system that does not work, because it is known that criminals captured by the Police go free within 24 hours, he points out.
In the opinion of those who understand this matter, there is a relationship between development and security, in such a way that if you go backwards in development you also go backwards in security, as is happening at the present time, due to the disorganization and abandonment of the Government.
Ramos believes that all this happens because the priorities of Lenín Moreno’s Executive are not those of development, security, service to the people, generating medium and long-term policies to improve the situation in the country, but rather applying neoliberal policies that convert states in failed, societies that generate pernicious processes, vicious circles.
