The narco-paramilitary group Águilas Negras also threatened political leaders, journalists and alternative media.

The Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca (CRIC), in Colombia, rejected on Friday the threats against the lives of indigenous authorities launched on Thursday by the narco-paramilitary group calling itself Bloque Capital D.C. of the Black Eagles.

Through a statement, the CRIC Human Rights coordinator, Jhoe Sauca, condemned “those stigmatizations that continue to be generated against the leadership” and stated that the threats, also made against political leaders, journalists and alternative media, are part of “the strategy of psychological warfare that they have always been using so that structural changes are not generated in this country.”

He added that in his pamphlet the narco-paramilitaries “refer a lot to the issue of the Minga because of four structural points that were placed”, and recalled that it is “a scenario that cannot be ignored, it is a scenario to be discussed with the Colombian people.” .

In this regard, he emphasized that “peace is a necessary right”, for which “we will continue to advance within the framework of the mandates of the Minga, now national, bringing together the regions to continue demanding and claiming that they do not continue to assassinate us.”

The CRIC also urged the institutions that watch over human rights to provide them with support and protection, and held the government of the president, Iván Duque, responsible, “if they threaten the lives of our colleagues.”
