Ecuadorian government owes USD 250 millon to dialysis centers

The amount owed would reach USD 250 million for medical benefits.

The lack of payment for medical benefits motivated the dialysis center staff to carry out a protest in the basement of the Joaquín Gallegos Lara building, in the north of Guayaquil.

The protesters demanded attention from the Government once the supply of inputs would be at risk.

With posters they asked the Ministries of Health and Finance to attend a resolution of the Constitutional Court regarding the cancellation of assets.

According to Cristina Freire, spokeswoman for the dialysis centers, the debt is already for 13 months and amounts to USD 250 million.

During the critical months of the Covid-19 pandemic, she indicated that 1.200 patients died and that they demand payment for them to guarantee the care of other patients.

At the moment, 84 dialysis centers would request the cancellation of values for medical benefits. Of this group, 22 would be from Guayas.
