The alliance that investigates femicides in Ecuador holds the Government responsible for this situation.
The Alliance for the Monitoring and Mapping of Femicides in Ecuador reported that so far in 2020, in Ecuador there have been 101 murders of women in the country.
The report also indicates that in 66.3 percent of the cases, the femicides were partners or ex-partners of the victims and 7.9 percent of these crimes were committed by parents or stepparents.
In this sense, the alliance denounces that sexist violence continues to take the lives of women, without the State assuming its responsibility to guarantee the integrity and protect the lives of girls, adolescents and women with real actions
Similarly, they reported that from January to March 2020, the emergency received more than 70,000 emergency calls for violence within the family and in the midst of the pandemic, 82 femicides have occurred, 59 of which were registered during the strictest period of confinement .
They stressed that all public policy for the defense and protection of rights is not specified in practice, a political will is needed that is expressed in efficient and sufficient prepositions for effective action to stop this violent wave.
Feminist organizations “urged that the justice system act in an agile manner, guaranteeing access to justice, with exemplary sentences, until the patriarchal violence is nipped at the roots and memory, truth, justice and reparation are achieved with all the women to whom we honor by reminding them and their families that they need protection and care. “
