University students demand the removal of Minister Romo from the Assembly, in the political trial against her

In the framework of the political trial against the Minister of Government, María Paula Romo, the Federation of University Students of Ecuador (FEUE), through a statement, demanded the 137 assembly members of the National Assembly, the dismissal of the minister

In the letter issued this Monday, November 23, the organization rejected the management of Romo to the post of the Ministry of Government, since, they consider, “it pushed a state policy aimed at repressing social organizations that mobilized against the neoliberal policy of the Government of Lenín Moreno ».

The FEUE noted that “the minister was aware of the use of expired tear gas canisters, as well as the attack with gases on the universities that, during the protests in October 2019, functioned as humanitarian reception centers”; causes that appear in the report of the Assembly’s Supervision Commission and for which the censure and dismissal of the minister is requested.

In addition, the statement accuses the Ministry of Government of promoting the “training of the Armed Forces with the Spanish Civil Guard, the CRA, attachés of the US National Police and the advice of USAID, institutions that are internationally known for violating Human Rights ”.

In this way, the student organization demanded that the 137 legislators dismiss and censor Minister María Paula Romo and that, also, “continue with the investigations to clarify the death of eight colleagues during the indigenous and popular uprising in October , the distribution of hospitals to various assembly members and the diversion of funds in ISSPOL, as well as the actions of the minister during the health emergency.

The political trial against Romo is scheduled for this Tuesday, November 24, virtually, at 10:00 am. At this time, the students have called for a peaceful sit-in outside the National Assembly, “to demand the removal of the Minister of Government.”
