65 out of 100 women have been victims of violence in their lifetime

88% of reports of sexual abuse and 85% of reports of rape are in the Preliminary Investigation phase.

On the international day against gender violence, the State Attorney General’s Office published an analysis with data on this global problem, which highlights figures such as the fact that 65 out of 100 women have been victims of violence in some area in their life while 45% of victims of gender violence are between 15 and 17 years old.

According to this study, 71% of victims of gender violence have a literacy center level of education and 67% of basic education. In the educational context, 97% of victims of physical and sexual violence, and 98% of victims of psychological violence did not report their aggressors.

On the other hand, the Office of the Prosecutor registers that 88% of the complaints of sexual abuse and 85% of the complaints of rape are hardly in the Preliminary Investigation phase.

In the context of the health emergency, in Ecuador between rural and urban areas there have been 46 cases of femicide from March to September 2020, a figure that represents up to five times more compared to the same period in 2019.

However, these data do not agree with the figures collected by different social organizations in Ecuador, such as the Alliance for Monitoring and Mapping of Femicides in Ecuador, made up of six social organizations, which records 101 murders of women during 2020 including 11 minors . That is, on average, every 72 hours a woman, girl or adolescent is a victim of femicidal violence.
