They are not numbers, they are people who have been murdered and that the State has not been able to solve, Martinez added.
Sybel Martínez, human rights activist and vice president of the Quito Rights Protection Council, described November 25 as a day of mourning due to the 101 registered femicides, of which eleven correspond to this month.
In addition, 1.084 children are orphans due to femicides since 2014, of which 98 minors have been affected during the pandemic: “They are not numbers, they are people who have been murdered and that the State has not been able to resolve with due diligence and protection.”
Marinez reproached that in addition to not having the political will, there are also no technical and economic resources to prevent these cases.
“We admire the speeches that are not counted in real events because of lack of budget”
She said that the budget is very important to attend to these cases, because without it we cannot work, because there are also children and adolescents who suffer violence.
“We also ask that justice operators have the capacity to deal with these events and be sensitive to be able to protect in a real and effective way.”
Martinez said that children orphaned due to femicides should receive a bonus, which unfortunately is not effective because an enforceable sentence is needed.
“There are many cases that do not characterize them as femicides, but the cause is followed by death or the cause is stopped because the aggressor has committed suicide. We are asking that the voucher be delivered from day one ”.
