The forest fire that occurred in the Cayambe-Coca National Park was controlled this Friday, November 6, 2020, after four days burning the vegetation of the place. Firefighters, community members, local and provincial governments attended the emergency.
Cayambe had several days with active fire points in different locations. On Monday, November 2, it began in the Pisambilla and Sáyaro sectors, within the Cayambe-Coca National Park. On Friday afternoon, firefighters announced that they finally controlled the flames.
The Quito Fire Department reported that visible flames or obvious spread are no longer detected in the reserve. At the moment, they maintain monitoring and settlement tasks in place.
On Tuesday, November 3, a fire was also reported in Cangahua. More than 900 people participated in the work to extinguish the flames. The fire in this sector was extinguished on the night of November 5. The calls left more than 4,000 hectares affected in Canguahua.
At both points, the weather conditions made suffocation work difficult, as well as difficult access.
