Rafael Correa denounces a new case of judicial persecution against him in Ecuador

The former Ecuadorian president showed a notification from the Prosecutor’s Office where he is summoned to appear in a virtual hearing. This would be the 34th process that the Ecuadorian justice opens against him

The former Ecuadorian president, Rafael Correa, denounced on his Twitter account this Monday a notification from the Prosecutor’s Office, where he is summoned to appear in a virtual hearing for an alleged case of “homicide” in Ecuador.

Correa assured in the same tweet that “there are already 34 processes” that are open against him. In said published notification, it is also reported that Correa is summoned to appear in court on October 27 through a virtual hearing of Zoom.

He affirmed that “they do not learn from Bolivia,” referring to the causes that were initiated in this country against former president Evo Morales and other officials of the Movement for Socialism (MAS), referring to comparing their process with the one they opened to the Bolivian leader.

On October 9, the National Court of Justice requested Interpol to arrest Rafael Correa. Rafael Correa has a sentence of eight years in prison for instigation of the crime of bribery in the so-called “Bribery Case”.

Last April, a court sentenced Correa to eight years in prison and 25 years of political disqualification, for his alleged participation in the crime of bribery, a sentence ratified in the second instance in July.

For Correa, this meant being out of the race for the 2021 elections, in which the former president aspired to return to the front line as a candidate for the Vice Presidency.
