De facto president in Bolivia is prosecuted for massacres

After the coup against Evo Morales, the military forces carried out the Senkata massacres, in El Alto and Sacaba, Cochabamba.

The Plurinational Legislative Assembly of Bolivia determined on Monday the opening of a trial to the president of the de facto government of Bolivia, Jeanine Áñez for the massacres of Sacaba (Cochabamba) and Senkata (El Alto) and other events.

The special commission of the Parliament that investigates the massacres suggested criminal proceedings against the ministers Karen Longaric, of Foreign Relations; Yerko Núñez, from the Presidency; Arturo Murillo, of Government; Fernando López, of Defense; Álvaro Coímbra, from Justice; Álvaro Rodrigo Guzmán, from Energías, and María Pinckert, from Environment and Water.

The report of that instance passed to the plenary session of the Legislative, in which it must be approved or rejected.

According to the commission, Jeanine Áñez will also have to answer to the Justice for the signing of Supreme Decree 4078 with which she authorized the Armed Forces to carry out operations to restore public order and exempted the military from any criminal responsibility.

After the coup against Evo Morales in November 2019, the military forces carried out the massacres of Senkata, in El Alto, adjacent to La Paz, and Sacaba, in the Cochabamba department.

In these military and police operations 37 people died, 27 of whom died from bullet wounds.

The families of the victims await the clarification of the facts in those days. To date, the investigation is carried out on the basis of information provided by civilians.
