It is time for Latin America to leave the OAS and strengthen Unasur and Celag, he added
Atilio Borón, political scientist, professor and writer, pointed out that the results of the elections held last Sunday, October 18 in Bolivia where Luis Arce, MAS candidate, won in the first round, show that the mission of the Organization of American States (OAS ) lied in the 2019 elections, pretending that there was a fraud when Evo Morales was reelected as President of that country.
“Something that had already been verified by two American universities, one of them in Michigan, which is number one in electoral matters.”
He rejected that the OAS pronouncement led by Luis Almagro gave way to a de facto government that opened the doors to two massacres, 37 deaths, human rights violations, exiled people and another refugee in the Mexican embassy located in La Paz.
With these antecedents, Borón pointed out that Celag’s petition demanding the resignation of Almagro is only the beginning of a reparation process, although he recognized that this could not be achieved because the head of the OAS is not an ethical person; However, he said that countries cannot be complicit in the damage caused: “I hope that Celag’s proposal will prosper and we will see if the governments react as expected.”
“The OAS was always an institution that caused great damage in Latin America, that is why the creation of Unasur and Celag was important”
He highlighted the need for Latin America to seek to strengthen its own institutional framework such as Celag, apart from the US, since that country only intervenes in the region to obtain its own benefit: “It makes no sense to maintain and sustain the OAS bureaucracy.”
“We as a region have nothing to do in the OAS, it has been proven for almost a century.”
The international expert stressed that Lenín Moreno’s decision to destroy Unasur will have to give an account not only to history but to justice itself, since the organization was a good opportunity for the institutionality of Latin America to be strengthened, something contrary to the idea of the United States whose governments have the hegemonic presumption that the region belongs to them: “And this idea comes from the second president of the United States who raised the need to maintain control of what they call the American island and that there are no unruly governments” .
“The OAS has the objective of guaranteeing that docility, that is why it is important to strengthen Unasur and develop a joint strategy as a region.”
In any case, he stressed that the impact of Bolivia will be strong for Latin America, which will be evidenced in the plebiscite that Chile will hold on Sunday, October 25, to definitively abandon the Constitution that has governed them for 30 years; also in the municipal elections of Brazil on November 15, where there are candidacies that may mean a slight change of course; And he did not even rule out that it could be reflected on December 6 in Venezuela where there is a sector that has decided to participate in the elections: “In this climate of deprivation and hardship, it can result in a Chavista opposition having important results.”
He also pointed out that in Ecuador there will also be important elections in February that could finally modify the sociopolitical map of Latin America within a period of three months: “And once normalized, Unasur could return to Ecuador because the headquarters is in that country since it was the one who led the process. Ecuador should play the role of regional articulator ”.
