More than half of the cases in the region are registered in Brazil
The Latin American and Caribbean region this Sunday, October 11, exceeded the figure of 10 million infections of Covid-19, while the number of deaths from the disease is close to 400.000.
According to figures from the World Health Organization (WHO), this Sunday there were 10’037.876 infected in Latin America and the Caribbean, of which 8’484.508 have recovered. In total, 367.657 deaths are reported.
More than half of the cases in the region are registered in Brazil, which until last Saturday accumulated 5’082.637 confirmed cases of the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2.
Brazil is the country with the most infections in the region with 5’055.888 cases and 150.198 deaths. It is followed in cases by Colombia with 894,300 infected and 27.495 deaths, Argentina with 871.455 infected and 23.225 deaths and Peru with 843.355 and 33.158 deaths.
Peru is the country with the highest mortality rate in the world in proportion to its population, with 101 deaths per 100.000 inhabitants.
While Ecuador, until this October 10, registered 146.828 cases of COVID-19 and 12.188 deaths. In the last 24 hours, it had 980 new infections.
