Richard Martínez confirmed in his resignation that he would join the team that the IDB president is forming.
Rafael Roncagliolo, former Foreign Minister of Peru, denounced that the campaign of Mauricio Claver-Carone, Donald Trump’s adviser for Latin America, for the presidency of the IDB included the purchase of votes in exchange for positions in this body.
Roncagliolo spoke two months ago to a Peruvian media and made reference to these virtual bribes. In addition, he warned that some Latin American governments gave up their dignity and interests to support the candidacy of the American, representative of the most right wing of the Republican Party.
Similarly, he indicated that there is an “exchange of personal favors,” since the vice presidency of the IDB was offered to a Brazilian and, other high positions, to the Ministers of Economy of Ecuador and Jamaica.
“Another form of vote buying would be that carried out with Colombia: it is granted a millionaire loan and President Iván Duque acts as head of the Claver-Carone electoral campaign,” Roncaglio added in his complaint.
Yesterday afternoon, Richard Martínez confirmed his departure from the Ministry of Finance and indicated that his resignation was tied to a commitment with the IDB to join the team that its president is forming.
“It is an honor as an Ecuadorian that Ecuador has a stellar position in international organizations,” said Martínez.
