Police push minor into Santiago River during protests

Citizens are protesting less than a month after the plebiscite is held where they will decide if a new Constitution is necessary.

During the protests on Friday in Chile, a member of the Chilean National Police threw a minor protester into the Mapocho River, amid repressive measures in Santiago, the country’s capital.

Despite the fact that the 16-year-old was injured in the river, the police continued to repress the protests, obstructing the rescue work of the firefighters

The minor received resuscitation by rescuers since he was unconscious at the time of being taken out of the river.

Witnesses say that the young man fell headlong, so he would have suffered a high-impact blow. According to sources located at the scene, the minor is currently receiving private medical attention

For four consecutive weeks, since last September 11, leftist political organizations and social movements have called for demonstrations in Plaza Italia, renamed Plaza Dignidad, in Santiago de Chile.

Said demonstrations take place less than a month after the plebiscite called for next October 25, in which the Chilean citizens will decide if a new Constitution is necessary.

The protests began as a result of the traditional tribute to President Salvador Allende, overthrown by a military coup on September 11, 1973.
