167 politicians, including past & present heads of state, back our appeal to UK government to bring an end to Julian Assange’s extradition proceedings & grant him his long overdue freedom
“Lawyers4Assange” denounces the illegality of the trial against the founder of WikiLeaks and considers this process an attack on freedom of the press and democracy.
13 former and current presidents, as well as other politicians from around the world, called on the United Kingdom to stop the extradition of Julian Assange to the United States.
This request is promoted by the legal organization “Lawyers4Assange”, who denounces illegalities in the process against the founder of WikiLeaks. The organization maintains that the trial against Assange violates human rights and also violates “freedom of the press and democracy.”
Among the politicians who join this petition, the presence of the former presidents of Brazil stands out: Lula da Silva and Dilma Roussef, the Argentine president: Alberto Fernández, the former president of Bolivia: Evo Morales and the current president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
Among these names also stands out the presence of the former British Labor leader, Jeremy Corbyn, the Colombian: Ernesto Samper and Fernando Lugo from Paraguay.
Assange faces this Monday, September 21, 2020, the third week of his extradition trial. The United States accuses him of 18 charges and will ask for a penalty of 175 years in prison.
Another initiative that seeks the release of the Australian journalist is an Amnesty International (AI), which asks Washington to drop the charges and adds more than 400.000 signatures.
