The Colombian Attorney General’s Office reported this Monday that a guarantee judge from Bogotá (capital) ordered the imprisonment of police officers Harby Damián Rodríguez Díaz and Juan Camilo Lloreda Cubillos, implicated in the murder of lawyer Javier Ordóñez.

Ordóñez died on September 8 after being beaten and tortured by two officers of the Bogotá police forces, first in an area near his residence and later in a unit of the Commands for Immediate Action (CAI).

The events unleashed a wave of protests in the Colombian capital, for which the agents detained by judge number 29 of guarantee control, who ordered their transfer to the Facatativá prison, are held responsible.

Police and military men involved in crimes are held in the prison facility. However, the Prosecutor’s Office did not agree with the selection of the detention center and requested that it be changed to the public servants’ ward of the La Picota Prison.

During the virtual hearing, the judge announced that the arrest warrant against those involved was taken based on the statements of the uniformed men who attacked Ordóñez. She also gave details of the technical inspection report on the victim’s corpse.

The official explained that Ordóñez had blunt trauma in multiple body segments, abrasions, skin injuries, abrasions, lacerations, cuts, bruises, signs of violence in the cheekbone, masseter and malar cavity.

“That was not the procedure that had to be carried out. These are cruel and inhuman treatments that caused intense pain to the victim (…) The right to freedom has to be sacrificed, they caused and in what way the death of a person, to whom they previously tortured, “he said.
