INEC postpones the population and housing census to November 2021

The updating process carried out by the INEC was covered in 73% of the country, until March of this year.

The National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) reported that the VIII population census and the VII of Housing, scheduled for November 24, are rescheduled for the year 2021, in the same month.

The INEC attributes this postponement to the technical and budgetary impact caused by the covid-19 health emergency in the country.

The National Statistics Council (CONEC) approved the planning presented by the INEC, to carry out the censuses between the years 2021 and 2023.

Since September 1, the INEC resumed the cartographic update in the country and also the rapid counting of people and homes. For this process, from the institution, they ask for the collaboration of citizens in gathering information. Until March of this year, 73% of the country was already covered.

The National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) approved a protocol for the return of census takers to the street, which must comply with all biosecurity measures, mandatory use of a mask and respect social distancing, in addition, technicians must not enter homes to update any data.
