The resolution of the electoral body is part of the organization of the 2021 elections.

Six electoral zones abroad will be updated and 10 will close. This is stated in the report that the Plenary of the National Electoral Council (CNE) approved unanimously on Tuesday, August 4, as part of the preparations for the 2021 general elections.

The councilors decided to update the electoral zones of Belarus, Hamburg (Germany), Montreal (Canada), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Managua (Nicaragua) and Valencia (Venezuela), after the Foreign Ministry notified the closure of those consular offices.

The agency indicated that voters who were registered in those jurisdictions will be relocated in the closest electoral zone, geographically. In addition, the electoral zones of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Tapachula (Mexico), New Delhi (India), Doha (Qatar) and Tehran (Iran) were eliminated. The electoral zones of Cienfuegos, Pinar del Río, Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba, in Cuba, were also eliminated.

The electoral zone of Mérida, in Venezuela, was also abolished.

During the session, the councilors also ratified the cancellation of three political organizations, among them, the Partido Adelante Ecuatoriano Adelante (AEA); the Health and Work movement; and the Emerging Movement for Transparency and Action (META).

Regarding the suspension of political organizations, the Plenary of the Contentious Electoral Tribunal will also be responsible for analyzing the situation of the movements Fuerza Compromiso Social, Justicia Social, Libertad es Pueblo and Juntos Podemos, once contradictory rulings were presented on the resolution of the National Electoral Council ( CNE), taken on July 19.

In this case, the president of the CNE, Diana Atamaint, will also appeal the ruling issued by the electoral judge Fernando Muñoz, which annulled the resolution of the National Electoral Council.
