In Ecuador Prosecutor’s Office opens investigation for the crime of alleged influence peddling in public hospitals

They announced proceedings and appearances of those who have been mentioned in these cases

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) will initiate a preliminary investigation into the alleged delivery of public office in exchange for political favors in the health sector.

The crime investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office is the alleged peddling of influence within public hospitals. The investigation begins after several media outlets presented lists of assembly members who would run hospitals in the country.

The last report of the digital medium La Posta presented a diagram in which 16 assembly members would be linked to this supposed “distribution” and, in the center, they locate the Minister of Government, María Paula Romo.

The information would be part of the statements of the ex-Morenoista assemblyman Daniel Mendoza, who is serving an order of preventive detention for alleged organized crime in the irregularities of contracts at the Pedernales Hospital.

The Prosecutor’s Office also announced that several institutions such as the Presidency, the National Assembly and various Ministries were notified to deliver documents related to the case.

In addition, he requested to render a version to citizens who have publicly indicated that they have information about the alleged crime, such as the lawyer Harrison Salcedo.
