Government owes USD 20 million to more than 120 suppliers since 2019

“Our children must eat,” claim those affected.

Unpaid State providers protested again at the Government Platform in Quito to demand payments owed since 2019.

The suppliers are from areas of cleaning, security, technology, food, which provided goods and services to the State and which have not been canceled since 2019.

“They tell us that they will pay when cash is available, but that will not happen,” claimed Marco Leguizaga, representative of the group of unpaid suppliers.

«Debts overwhelm us, the SRI charges us. Everyone wants to charge us and the Government does not pay us, “he reproached.

“Payment to suppliers, payment to suppliers,” exclaimed dozens of those affected who took up positions outside the Government Platform.

They wear a mask, some wear their work uniforms and other biosecurity suits. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, they have decided to hold several sit-ins to demand their due.

Leguizaga claimed that almost $ 20 million is owed by the State to the 120 providers that make up the group. They already have the payment order, but due to lack of resources, according to the response that the Ministry gave them, they cannot transfer them.

In the case of Paulina Lozada, representative of one of the security companies, they have not received their payments for 8 months.

“Finance tells us there is no money, but that is not the solution for eating. The solution is that, at least, we reach a payment agreement, “she said.

Suppliers must continue to provide services to the State, even though they do not receive their payments for months. In case of default, the contract policies are activated and they would have to pay fines.
