Two former members of the Jamil Mahuad administration will integrate this working table together with the Chancellor of the Republic.

The President of the Republic, Lenín Moreno, announced the creation of a public-private team that will be responsible for designing the protection strategy for the Galapagos Archipelago and respect for its maritime resources.

The president informed that the work team will be made up of the Foreign Minister of Ecuador, Luis Gallegos, the former mayor of Quito, Roque Sevilla and the former Minister of Environment of the Mahuad administration, Yolanda Kakabadse

This was announced after allegations that hundreds of Chinese fishing boats have remained on the edge of the country’s territorial sea.

The President of the Galapagos Governing Council, Norman Wray, indicated that one of the whale sharks, which were tagged in 2019 in order to know their behavior and movement patterns, stopped transmitting their location.

It should be remembered that Roque Sevilla served as a Quito councilor in the Jamil Mahuad administration in 1992. Similarly, Yolanda Kakabadse was Minister of the Environment during the Mahuad presidency in 1998.
