The Emergency Operations Committee (COE) authorized from August 1 the expansion of air frequencies to 50% of normal capacity.
In a statement the company Quiport, which manages the Mariscal Sucre airport in Quito, recalled that since June 1, airport activities had been resumed by 30%.
Regarding this new modification, the COE delegated to the Ministry of Transport and Public Works to notify the airlines of the decision taken and the authorized percentage of the volume of frequencies.
Quiport pointed out that the increase in capacity “is one more step for the recovery of air transport in Ecuador.”
Allan Padilla, director of Operations of Quiport, indicated that the COE resolution is given in the face of the application of sanitary protection measures and security protocols at the country’s airports and, in particular, at the capital’s terminal.
He argued that several airlines operating at the capital’s airport register a significant demand for tickets.
Padilla insisted that we must move towards the recovery of air transport, which is one of the pillars on which the economic development of the city and the country is based.
He added that this connectivity network will contribute to the recovery of business and tourism.
But he mentioned that due to the pandemic, they are working in coordination with the Government to establish a measure that replaces mandatory preventive isolation for people who can arrive in the country with a negative coronavirus result.
