TCE asks not to change the calendar for elections in 2021 in Ecuador.

Meeting the times of the electoral calendar guarantees a transparent electoral process, the Electoral Dispute Tribunal published on twitter.

This Friday, June 26, the Electoral Contentious Court (TCE) issued a report sent to the National Electoral Council (CNE), stressing that the calendar for the 2021 Elections cannot be modified. This would imply altering 53 activities and violating jurisdictional activity and guaranteeing participation rights.

The president of the Electoral Dispute Tribunal (TCE), Arturo Cabrera, asked that the calendar for the 2021 general elections not be modified, as some political organizations request.

Cabrera argued that in the calendar that was approved by the National Electoral Council (CNE) last March 12, four days before the Executive decreed the health emergency, it contemplates minimum deadlines for the TCE to resolve resources such as the challenges of the results.

«With the calculations that were previously carried out, agreed upon, and which are absolutely detailed (…), with the anticipated times already approved, the Court in its projection expects to have definitive, resolved results, without any pending cases to allow comply with the dates established in the Constitution and the law to be able to deliver credentials and proceed to the possession of the elected authorities on May 17, 2021. Altering that electoral calendar is a real problem, “he said.

Vanesa Freire, from the Correista Social Commitment movement, has ratified her position against altering the calendar.

The representative of Creo, Carlos Padrón, for his part, emphasized that “this modification cannot affect the normal development of the electoral process and the decision that is adopted to modify the electoral calendar must be duly motivated or supported, and that motivation cannot be a simple mention of the emergency situation.
