Geophysical Institute alerts possible flows of volcanic material in the Volcán and Upano rivers

He recommended that citizens do not approach the banks of these rivers to avoid incidents.

The Geophysical Institute of the National Polytechnic School warned of the possibility of generating rains in the upper area of ​​the Sangay volcano, which can cause the flow of accumulated volcanic material on its flanks.

Through a bulletin, the institute warned that, due to the rains, mud flows can be generated in the Volcán and Upano rivers. He added that this phenomenon has been recurrent since the process of volcanic activity began in May 2019.

After issuing this alert, the entity recommended to the population, which is located near the rivers, not to go to the banks as a precaution against a possible flow of volcanic material.

In addition, he clarified that the Geophysical Institute remains attentive to the activity of the Sangay volcano and will report on possible eventualities that arise.
