Complaint against President Moreno and Richard Martínez for not paying social security

The Labor Parliament, the Coordinator of Public Servants and the National Peasant Coordinator Eloy Alfaro filed a criminal complaint against the President of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, and the Minister of economy, Richard Martinez.

The complaint is for non-compliance with legitimate decisions of the competent authority by not making the 40% contribution to the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS).

“President Lenín Moreno and Finance Minister Richard Martinez will be held accountable,” said Jaime Arciniega of the Labor Parliament.

He explained that the Government did not comply with the sentence of the Constitutional Court, on the Labor Justice Law, which established the payment of 40%.

Furthermore, he pointed out that in 2019 more than 50% of the total established by the Court has stopped being paid. While, so far in 2020, the National Government has not delivered USD600 million to Social Security.

The lawyer for the social organization, Patricio Morales, said that, in this case, the President and the Minister of Finance have omitted the sentence passed by the Constitutional Court. Morales considers it appropriate to file this complaint so that the Prosecutor’s Office investigates this breach of a legitimate decision by the authority.
