They also reject the reduction of one hour to their workday
The teachers protested against the Ecuadorian Government to demand the pending payments and the non-reduction of one hour of their working day outside the Government of Guayas.
“We defend the present and future of the Homeland,” says one of the posters carried by one of the teachers in public schools. They reject the latest measures imposed by President Moreno in the context of the pandemic.
The protesters from the Ecuadorian Teachers’ Network gathered together, protested in the Plaza de la Administración of the Municipality of Guayaquil and then they gave their virtual classes.
Wilmer Santacruz, coordinator of the Network, said that more than 10,000 teachers in Zone 8, which includes Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón, remain unpaid.
The teachers also rejected that President Moreno has decided to reduce one hour of his working day, which implies 8.33% less than his salary.
They explained that the day, in teleworking, has been more strenuous and, despite the reduction of the time in their day, they will continue with the same workload.
Santacruz reported that they will continue the protests in Guayaquil and in other cities until the payments are regularized.
