Almost 18,000 above-average deaths have been recorded during the pandemic in Ecuador

Guayas, Pichincha and Manabí are the provinces with the highest number of deaths.

An analysis carried out by a media outlet with a cut to May 14, in which the figures of the historical average of deceased registered in the Civil Registry are crossed with those of 2018, 2019 and 2020, determine that this year these figures increased because of the Covid-19.

According to the national study, there is a difference of 19,587 deaths from the historical average between March, April and May.

Only taking into consideration Guayas, Pichincha and Manabí, which are the provinces that -until now- lead the way with the number of infections and deaths, is there a detailed display of the figures.

In Guayas, there are 14,104 deaths from the historical average.

The historical average in January was 1,892; in February 1 654; in March 1 843; in April 1 773; and until May 14, 1676.

In January 2018, the number of deaths in Guayas was 1,819; in February in 1,536; in March in 1 777; in April in 1 682; and in May in 1 647.

In January 2019, the registry of deceased was 1,965; in February 1 771; in March 1 909; in April 1 863 and in May 1 704.

During this year the figures are as follows: January 1,959; February 1 702; March 5 139; April 11 764; and until May 14 1 704.

In the case of Pichincha, the statistics are constantly growing, registering 800 deaths from the historical average.

The historical average in January was 1,269; in February 998; in March 1 048; in April 1 002; and until May 14, 1,096.

In January 2018, the number of deaths in Pichincha was 1,331; in February at 1,000; in March in 1,001; in April in 1,008; and in May at 1 120.

In January 2019, the registry of deceased was 1,218; in February 996; in March 1 094; in April 995 and in May 1,072.

During this year the figures are as follows: in January 1 210; February 1,145; March 1 099; April 1,273; and until May 14, 1,573.

Manabí is the third province to register a high number of deaths.

When crossing the figures with the historical average, the difference is 1,583.

The historical average in January was 568; in February 525; in March 575; in April 520; and until May 14, 474.

In January 2018, the number of deaths in Manabí stood at 531; in February at 500; in March in 566; in April in 485; and in May at 497.

In January 2019, the registry of deceased was 604; in February 549; in March 583; in April 554 and in May 450.

For this year, the figures stood out due to the pandemic. In January there were 623 deaths; in February 533; in March 524; in April 1 500; and until May 14 1 126. All these data, according to the Civil Registry.

From this analysis, there are also provinces such as the Galapagos that have -2 deaths difference in relation to the historical average.
