Tests to diagnose coronavirus are already in the country

The Minister of Health assured that 200 thousand tests, between rapid and PCR, are available.

This Monday, April 6, 100,000 rapid tests and another 100,000 PCR arrived in the country to diagnose COVID-19, which has already caused the death of 191 people in our country. This was announced by the Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, on a television channel.

Julio López, vice minister of Governance and Surveillance of the Ministry of Public Health indicated that the PCR diagnostic tests, which make it possible to determine whether or not a person is infected with coronavirus, are being carried out normally at the national level.

He announced that in the course of the week rapid tests will be distributed in all provinces in order to enhance virus detection actions.

He also reported that the Ministry of Health guarantees the delivery of protective clothing for all health personnel, including postgraduates and doctors who are at the forefront of the pandemic.

At this point, Minister Zevallos indicated that there are 417 health professionals who work in public and IESS hospitals, who tested positive for COVID-19, who together with their colleagues who show symptoms and are suspected add up to 1,600 workers.

He stated that in the provinces of Guayas and Los Ríos the peak of the first contagion curve has been reached.

Regarding the handling of corpses, he explained that cremation is not necessary because a deceased person does not represent a risk of contagion, but clarified that its packaging with special protective covers is important.

In response, he said that the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) donated 5 thousand covers to Ecuador.
