Citizens classify President Lenin Moreno’s management in the coronavirus crisis as bad

In contrast, 76% rated the performance of Mayor Cynthia Viteri as bad in the Citizen Pulse survey.

After contextualizing its research proposal within the global, regional and national panorama, Pulse Citizen Research & Strategy has studied the perception of Ecuadorian citizens regarding the Coronavirus, their concern, their preventive methods and the general assessment of the central and local government.

Lenín Moreno’s performance against the current health emergency is rated as bad by 85%, very poor by 11%, 3% good, 1% very good. 96% is contrary to the performance of the Ecuadorian president.

But Vice President Otto Sonnenholzner’s performance has improved acceptance, 46% say it is good, 23% bad, 21% very good, 10% very bad.

On the other hand, the performance of Cynthia Viteri is decisive in the face of the current health emergency, 46% say it is very bad, 33% bad, 17% good, 4% very good, if we add the negative figures they give us a total of 79% against. In front of the mayor of Quito Jorge Yunda, who has 48% as good, 45% very good, 5% bad, 2% very bad.

The management of the central government through the COE with the municipalities, is very contrary to the perception of the population, 63% say it is very bad, 22% bad, 14% good, 1% very good, conclusion 85% is not agree.

It supports the measures taken by the National Government in the face of the coronavirus health emergency, 83% agree, 17% disagree. Compared to the measures taken by the corresponding Municipality, 86% accept and 14% do not.

Regarding the information that the authorities have given regarding the prevention of the coronavirus, they consider that 53% is good, 27% bad, 15% very good, 5% very bad.

For questions about the coronavirus, it was asked if they are concerned about the coronavirus and their answer was that 85% are very concerned and 13% somewhat.

On the other hand, one of the questions about how the pandemic is reported in traditional media (television, radio and newspapers), 63% go to them a lot, somewhat 24%, little 10% and 3% nothing. While 62% reports a lot, 28% somewhat and 9% little through social networks.

Regarding the impact of the health emergency on the national economy, 73% refer to a negative but lasting impact, those who believe in a negative but temporary impact are 27%.

The population says that you have the necessary food products in 68%, against 32% who say no.

Regarding the labor situation, it can be known that 37% are not working, 31% in telework, 14% unemployed, 11% working normally, 7% vacation.

To avoid contagion with the coronavirus, the population indicates that 86% wash their hands, 76% do not frequent places where there is an agglomeration of people, 74% use gel or alcohol frequently, 49% use a mask in public places, 2 % self-medicate.

With a total of 1288 respondents, in the cities of Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Manta, Santo Domingo, Portoviejo, Ibarra and Babahoyo, a sample error margin of +/- 2.9%, the research was carried out between 19 to March 24, 2020.

According to the polling company, this is a quantitative study, worked with the WhatsApp platform nationwide. The study population is a general public, men and women older than 16 years to 55 years, belonging to different socioeconomic groups in the country, indicates the profile of the survey.
