Uruguay’s FA analyzes controversial social reform bill

Uruguay’s opposition Broad Front (Frente Amplio-FA) on Monday undertakes a rigorous study about a controversial government social security bill.

Few days ago, President Luis Lacalle, of the National Party, managed an indispensable consensus among the right-wing parties of the electoral coalition in power, Colorado Party, Cabildo Abierto Party, Independent Party and People’s Party.

However, the text proposed by a Special Commission of experts so that the Government presents to Parliament never had the representative votes of the FA, the PIT-CNT trade union and the Organization of Retirees and Pensioners.

Despite this, the president personally delivered the legislative draft to Fernando Pereira, president of the left-wing force, at the headquarters of the political party.

Pereira announced that the FA is studying the draft bill very rigorously and sensibly with 25 technicians, as of a series of verifications in the commission of experts on how to process the reform of the privileged military fund and how to treat most of the workers.
