2.5 million Ecuadorians were severely food insecure

The World Food Program determined that, currently, about 2.5 million citizens suffer from lack of food in Ecuador.

These people eat once a day or simply do not eat at all.

How much harm can a person do not eat properly?

Dr. Tatiana Guanoluisa points out that when you stop eating, damage is caused to the body, causing a lack of concentration and memory.

In addition, by refraining from eating foods with sugar, the brain is starved of glucose, decreasing its ability to perform various activities.

“The most common thing that occurs is gastritis, since there is no food for a long period. And what gastric acid does is it irritates the stomach.”

For the specialist Paúl Lalvay, by not eating, the body depletes its glycogen reserves and the body begins to burn fatty tissue, which decreases the body’s energy and causes the loss of muscle fat.

“The brain, the liver, the kidneys, all our organs would not work properly. There would be apathy, annoyance, tiredness, alterations at the neurological level”.

One point that could aggravate this problem is that nearly 380,000 people who suffer from food insecurity are minors.

According to the Technical Secretariat Ecuador Grows Without Child Malnutrition, malnutrition in the first two years of life can cause devastating alterations in the child’s brain development, in their ability to learn, communicate, think analytically, socialize and adapt to new environments and people.
