Sports.- The South American March Championship of Lima was the stage for several Ecuadorian athletes to stand out in their respective categories.
In the competition – which was organized by the South American Athletics Confederation together with the Federation of Peru – athletes from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Peru and Panama intervened.
Karla Jaramillo, 23, culminated in the first place in the 20-kilometer women’s modality recording the time of 1 hour, 34 minutes and 58 seconds. Paola Pérez – also Ecuadorian – climbed to third place.
Meanwhile, in the men’s 50 kilometers, Claudio Villanueva finished in the first position with a time of 4 hours, 14 minutes and 10 seconds.
The 21-year-old sportsman returns to find glory in the neighboring country after his consecration in the Panamericans of Lima in 2019. The second place went to fellow compatriot Óscar Cáceres.
For its part, the tricolor Paola Valdez won in the category 10 kilometers under-20, recording the time of 51 minutes and 14 seconds. This victory was emulated by the tricolor Óscar Patín, registering a time of 43 minutes and 18 seconds in the 10 kilometers of men. In the 5 kilometers of women, Ecuadorian Maria Mendoza was third, her countryman, Sara Encalada, failed to enter the podium and finished fourth.
With these results, tricolor athletes will continue their international agendas with a view to the World March in Minsk, Belarus, which will be held on May 2 and 3.
