Mexico to appeal ruling of a judge in favor of Iberdrola

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, announced on Monday that they will delve into the ruling of a judge who exempted Iberdrola from paying a fine of 450 million dollars.

At his morning briefing at the National Palace, the president said that the Secretariat of Environment will file an appeal with all elements and denounced judges and all those who participated in favor of this Spanish company, either for money, influence or any other commitments.

He condemned alleged lax arguments that do not agree with evidence and facts and denounced that an institution called COFECE was created by neoliberal governments to defend companies that were granted contracts in the era of privatizations: They are the ones that defend Iberdrola, he said.

He also denounced a sort of golden bureaucracy, with very high paychecks and all kinds of privileges in autonomous organizations that were created in the neoliberal period.

He warned that he will investigate the salaries of civil servants.

In the case of Iberdrola, a federal judge indefinitely suspended payment of the fine of 9 billion pesos (450 million dollars) imposed by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) on its company Energia Monterrey, for selling electricity to unauthorized companies between 2019 and 2020.
