Spanish President Pedro Sanchez on Monday visited the areas hit by fires in Casas de Miravete, Extremadura.
In a statement disclosed by the Palace of Moncloa, Sanchez stressed that the energy crisis resulting from the war in Ukraine cannot divert their commitment with mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
The head of the government, alongside the president of the Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernandez Vara, called on public administrations and parties to turn environmental policies into State policies, as they transcend to autonomous communities and legislatures.
Sanchez ratified the government’s commitment to fully extinguish all active fires and recover the affected territories.
In particular, he paid tribute to Daniel Muñoz Varas, the brigade member of the Government of Castile and Leon who was killed in the fire of Losacio (Zamora) on Sunday.
The president added that he represents frontline workers that fight to try to prevent the climate and ecological disaster caused by these fires. Vindicating his memory is vindicating and showing the pride of society as a whole.
The president also launched a message of prudence and caution in the face of the high temperatures that are hitting Spain now.
