If there is one visit that has generated great expectation, is the one that the President of Mexico Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is making today to the United States to meet with his counterpart Joe Biden.
The issues are of great importance and concern not only for both countries, but also for Central America and other countries of the continent that send migrants.
There are many issues and the Mexican president will have to make a great effort to summarize them in order to discuss them with Biden and not leave anything on the table.
“What we want is that migration should not be forced, we want migration to be optional and of course legal, completely legal, and that an agreement should be reached in that sense,” he said.
To order the migratory flow, to legalize it, both for those who are already there, who work honestly, live in the United States, contribute to the development of that great nation, as well as for those who, out of necessity, have to go there.
Lopez Obrador said very clearly in the press conference a few hours before leaving for Washington: there are bilateral issues such as migration, which has to do with cooperation programs for development, not only in the case of Mexico, but also support for Central American countries.
Another topic that generates expectations is his announcement that he will discuss with Biden the case of Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, for whom he has requested a pardon and asylum in Mexico.
“If he is taken to the United States and sentenced to the maximum penalty and to die in prison, we must begin the campaign to dismantle the statue of liberty”, he proclaimed.
