The director of investigation of the National Police of Ecuador, Alaín Luna, pointed out that the State of Emergency was issued to contain the wave of violence that was in the provinces of Esmeraldas, Guayas and Manabí.
“The State of Emergency does not mean that, as soon as it is decreed, you have a total decline in the aggressiveness of deaths,” he said.
This measure came into force on April 30, 2022 to prevent the “growth and to maintain control” of the territories so that the violent acts do not continue to grow.
According to the statistics, Luna indicated that lowering the number of violent deaths was achieved in these provinces.
«Before there were 16 violent deaths, now there are between 8 or 9 violent deaths. Would we like the figure to drop to zero? Yes, but for the moment we are controlling this situation and when this objective is achieved we will reduce these figures », he stated.
