Trade union organizations in Ecuador announce mobilizations for International Labor Day

Union organizations announced a mobilization for next Sunday, May 1, 2022, the date on which International Labor Day is commemorated.

The leaders of the Unitary Front of Workers (FUT), the Popular Front, the National Union of Educators (UNE) and the General Union of Workers (UGTE), detailed that the march will be concentrated at 08:00, on August 10 avenue, at the height of the “Caja del Seguro”, downtown Quito.

The mobilization will advance along Sucre Street, until it reaches the Plaza de San Francisco, a place where different activities will take place.

Ángel Sánchez (FUT), Nelson Erazo (Popular Front), Isabel Vargas (UNE) and José Villavicencio (UGTE) rejected the policies applied by the national government and emphasized that President Guillermo Lasso has not attended to the needs of the workers.

Isabel Vargas confirmed the participation of teachers, dismissed teachers and students, for this march, to demand that the Executive comply with the reforms to the Education Law, regarding salary equality.

Meanwhile, the president of the Popular Front stressed that Ecuador is experiencing a crisis caused by the lack of public policies by the Executive and argued that “a change is required so this means that the Executive and the Legislative must go home”
