The Minister of Education of Ecuador, María Brown, reported that the infrastructure of the schools in the Coast and Galapagos region is being fixed so that they are in optimal conditions to start classes.
“We are close to starting the school year in the Costa – Galapagos regime, on May 6. And, for this, we have deployed the entire contingent of the Ministry of Education and made several contracts for an amount of more than USD 20 million, in maintenance investment in the country’s educational establishments. And this will allow us to have them in better condition.”
The minister indicated that there are several institutions that are undergoing maintenance, but in a more “deep” way. Therefore, it will take more time to adapt them. Here the buildings will be used partially, until the work is finished.
“There are 151 educational institutions in the coastal region (…). The vast majority of establishments will be in good condition. Let’s not say perfect. We had done an analysis of infrastructure needs. And these require time for their work”.
The minister also pointed out that all cleaning utensils have been acquired, so that young people can constantly wash their hands and disinfect themselves, in order to avoid any spread of the coronavirus.
