The Ecuadorian Police arrested a woman at the Sumpa Terrestrial Terminal in Santa Elena when she was trying to sell her two-year-old daughter for USD 400. The mother would have used the social network Facebook to “commercialize” the minor.
The woman, based in the Chanduy parish, assured that this is the price that she had put on the girl, due to the “lack of economic solvency and abandonment of her father.”
The National Directorate of Specialized Police for Children and Adolescents (DINAPEN) received an alert from ECU 911 about this crime and, at that moment, began an undercover operation to arrest the mother.
A DINAPEN agent contacted the mother and they agreed on the business and the meeting point, at the moment in which the “transaction” was going to be carried out, the Police flagrantly apprehended her mother.
The minor remained in the custody of the authorities, while the mother was taken to the Judicial Police pending the hearing, where she will face charges for violation of children’s rights.
