In her presentation in Viña del Mar once again the artist made clear the repression experienced by the most vulnerable for demanding their rights.
During her presentation at Viña del Mar 2020, Mon Laferte admitted that before going to the stage, she had thought many times not to appear.
She was afraid because the previous days the Chilean police asked for their appearance before the Prosecutor’s Office: “I have been really nervous, I have been afraid but I have also felt super brave,” said Mon Laferte.
Amid shouts and applause, Laferte commented that when they confirmed her participation in Viña she did not know if she was going to attend: “I was afraid and I said no, you have to cancel.
“Some people told me you have to cancel, everybody, people, friends, work team, family, social networks said you have to cancel because you can’t have a party in the middle of social injustices, human rights violations, no you can do a festival in the middle of a bang. Others were telling me you have to go and leave it crap. ”
When she said that through networks he learned of a press release from Carabineros de Chile where they summoned her to testify in the Prosecutor’s Office, the public began to shout in chorus “murderers, murderers”.
“At first, I thought it was a joke and I realized that no, from that time to the stage I was very scared. Can it be a crime to express an opinion? ” I only gave an interview and expressed myself as anyone. ”
With a broken voice, he recalled that from a very young age he had to work: “It is so difficult to remain silent, when one lived it in her own flesh because not all people know what it is to really starve.”
“I was born here in Viña Del Mar, in these mountaintops. My father was a construction worker. I know what it feels to go hungry,” she said. “My grandmother would take care of me and she told me: you have to become famous. It’s the only way we will get out of poverty, and I tried to make right by her”.
