The former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva enjoins today his 25th victory in the Brazilian justice system after the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office requested the closing of another investigation improperly opened against him.
According to website lula.com.br, the new victory makes reference to the investigation of the breach of law against founder of Workers Party, the former governor Dilma Rousseff and the former Minister Aloizio mercasante.
The allegation was remitted to the first stage and was archived after six years of research, due to the lack of elements that could justify the prosecution.
For lawyers Cristiano Zanin and Valeska Teixeira, from Lula’s legal team, the accusation´s premise was based on a falsehood created by the dismantled judicial operation Lava Jato, in the case known as Quadrilhão, a name given by the Federal Police and Attorney General Rodrigo Janot.
The adjective was used by the Brazilian press against the alleged criminal organizations of the PT and the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party, which Janot denounced before the Federal Supreme Court.
According to defense lawyers, “the situation confirms that Lula was a victim of lawfare, consisting in the strategic use of the judicial system to achieve illegitimate ends, in this case to interfere in the country’s political stage”.
The media assert that the successive judicial victories of the former head of state and his family not only prove his innocence, but also attest to the intense legal and media persecution of which he was a victim.
